Quality Assurance (QA) Dialysis

By order of the common self-administration in health care (Gemeinsamer Bundesausschuss; G-BA) Medical Netcare as central data analyst provides quality reports for about 800 dialysis centers and 17 health insurance sectors quaterly. On top, a summarizing report is transferred to the B-GA yearly.

Quality Assurance Guideline

Reports are written according to a guideline for Quality Assurance in dialysis treatment ("Richtlinie zur Sicherung der Qualität von Dialyse-Behandlungen nach den §§ 136 und 136a SGB V (QS-Richtlinie Dialyse)"), which was resolved upon on april, 18th 2006 by the G-BA and came into force on june, 24th 2006. The guideline aims at the implementation of a constant progress in enhancing quality.

 Reasons for creating a special guideline for QA Dialysis were

  1. the disease load going with terminal renal failure, which can be reduced fittingly with an adequate therapy,
  2. the changeover to a flat-rated payment,
  3. the existence of suiting quality indicators for covering process and result quality, and
  4. in this case even the availability of valid international guidelines for the limits.

 The content of the QA guideline Dialysis can be roughly subdivided into:

  1. Benchmark and sample tests relating to data of appendixes 1 to 3 in QA guideline Dialysis
  2. Benchmark referring to data of appendix 4 in QA guideline Dialysis

Tasks taken up by MNC

Subject of data analysis executed by MNC is exclusively the first point, that is benchmarking and sample testing relating to data of appendixes 1 to 3 in QA guideline Dialysis. The QA guideline Dialysis is to be taken into consideration with each treatment that is given within the framework of a statutory health insurance physician's care by medical suppliers, i.e. dialysis institutions.

MNC analyzes the data provided by dialysis institutions and composes quaterly reports concerning trans-institutional benchmarking for each dialysis institute, quaterly reports for each health insurance company regarding sample testing, as well as a yearly report on demand of the G-BA, each in accordance with the requirements of appendix 5 in QA guideline Dialysis, while each can have differentiating content depending on the receiver.
